Third Thursday of Advent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD December 21, 2017 Third Thursday of Advent WORD of the DAY O Dawn of the East, Brightness of the Light Eternal and Sun of Justice, come and enlighten them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. (Gospel Acclamation) How shall I live this Word? Today is the winter solstice, the day in which there is the most nostalgia for light.  The O Antiphon has us singing of the star that rises in the East.  Jesus, Eternal Light, the Sun of Justice, comes to illumine and to cast out the darkness that blocks us.  How many shadows in our life and how much darkness lives in us! Shadows are still a sign of light that is impeded, that intercepts it, and makes it reflect differently; but darkness is terrible, both the real one and the symbolic one that speak of lack of hope, fear, emptiness, death. Jesus explicitly tells us: “I am the Light of the world; those who follow Me, do not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of Life” (John 8:12).
