FEAST OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD FEAST OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS June 19, 2020 WORD of the DAY At that time Jesus said in reply, “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11: 25-30) How shall I live this Word? That which changes our life and fills it, is knowing that we are loved. Today, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us gaze on this Heart and let ourselves be loved by Jesus,...

Fifth Saturday of Lent

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fifth Saturday of LENT April 4, 2020 WORD of the DAY But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing, nor do you consider that it is better for you that one man should die instead of the people, so that the whole nation may not perish.” He did not say this on his own, but since he was high priest for that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not only for the nation, but also to gather into one the dispersed children of God. So from that day on they planned to kill him. (John 11: 49-53) How shall I live this Word? Jesus is wanted: at the center of the Easter feast in Jerusalem there is no longer the Temple, but now only Him. Everyone awaits Him suspended: both those who want to immolate Him as an atoning victim, and those who place in Him the hope of true happiness. Even today, on the part of men and women, He continues to be pulled on both sides: there are those who would like to use Him...

Fourth Saturday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fourth Saturday of Ordinary Time February 8, 2020 WORD of the DAY The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught. He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” (Mark 6: 30-32) How shall I live this Word? Although brief, this passage reveals the warm lively humanity of Jesus and His familiarity and affection for His apostles. The initiative and invitation to find a quiet green place, in contact with creation, highlights the relationship of Jesus with His disciples. This fact also shows loving, tender intuition, two traits of real and deep humanity. Lord, I ask You to help my heart leave behind egotistical pressures and open itself to human relationships that are really sincere, warm with friendship and tenderness. The voice of Soren Kierkegaard, Philosopher Like the arrow of a trained archer that when launched from the bow does not rest until it arrives at the target, so too humans created by God and having God as their objective, cannot find rest except in Him. __________________________________________________________________________ Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Via dell’Ateneo Salesiano 81, 00139 Rome, Italy...

Feast of St. Agatha Virgin and Martyr

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fourth Wednesday of Ordinary Time St. Agatha Virgin and Martyr February 5, 2020 WORD of the DAY “Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. (Mark 6: 3) How shall I live this Word? For many years, Jesus lived in Nazareth in the simple daily reality and did not attract admiration. Thus the surprise of those who began to be aware of His public life full of the miraculous was understandable. Jesus teaches us that His life on earth was permeated above all by two modalities; to accept the Father’s will and to not remove Himself from the marvel of His neighbors. The question was very strong. Who is He and why does He act this way? The pages of the Holy Scripture explain it but our mind and our heart sometimes want more certainty. Without the light of Faith there is nothing to illumine the Way, the Truth, and the Life which is the person of Jesus, His way of relating to us. Lord, always increase...

Tuesday, January 9, 2019

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Tuesday January 8, 2019 WORD of the DAY When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already very late. Dismiss them so that they can go to the surrounding farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” He said to them in reply, “Give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Are we to buy two hundred days’ wages worth of food and give it to them to eat?” He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out they said, “Five loaves and two fish.” So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass. The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties. Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them...
