Second Saturday of Advent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD December 16, 2017 Second Saturday of Advent   WORD of the DAY Hear Shepherd of Israel… stir up your power and come to save us.            (Psalm 80: 1) How shall I live this Word? Like a good Israelite, the author of the psalm turns to God as a Shepherd.  It was unthinkable in those times that a good shepherd would not take affectionate care of his sheep.  Thus, the psalmist finds it easy and consoling to turn to God as the One who loves and at the same time, is so powerful that He can help His people in times of fatigue, of trial, of danger. Its location as the Responsorial Psalm in a day close to Christmas, helps us to enter into the deep meaning of this solemnity.  To commemorate the Nativity of Jesus, the Son of God and our Redeemer, means above all, making an invocation like this one.  It is not by chance that the Jesus whose birth we are commemorating, created the parable of the lost sheep.  Then He clearly said that He Himself is the Good Shepherd who gives His life in order to bring His...
