Wednesday of Week One of Ordinary Time

They immediately told him about her.  He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.     (Mark 1: 29-31) How shall I live this Word? How does Jesus begin?  He heals!  He frees from evil!  Jesus shows us the jealous Love of God for us that wants us ‘rich with His dignity’.  Jesus comes close to us, takes us by the hand, puts us on our feet again, in the position of children, and restores the power of the gratuitous gift, of service to Him and to each other.  Healed, forgiven, saved in order to serve:  this is the icon of freedom! Lord, free us from the evil that saps our strength and does not let us act, serve but paralyzes us!  Come close to us too and take us by the hand: restore life to us!
