FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Saturday of Easter Time May 4, 2019 WORD of the DAY The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid. (John 6: 18-20) How shall I live this Word? A monk comments on this passage from the Gospel: “Without Him, in the dark, while a strong wind is blowing: this happens frequently. The most obvious result is the fear of not making it, of being submerged by the waves, of having to declare oneself defeated by events. We hear every day about drowning people, lives overwhelmed by the waves, frightened men and women. Abandonment, marginalization, solitude are the evils of our time. All too often we must note that not only Jesus is not among them, but that those who should make the love of the Lord felt with their presence are also absent.
