A very large crowd gathered around him so that he got into a boat on the sea and sat down. And the whole crowd was beside the sea on land. This is the first great commandment for Israel. Jesus well knows this appeal and makes it doable by speaking to the crowd in a way that is simple and clear. He often uses parables, images that the people are acquainted with because they are part of their daily life as farmers, fishermen, shepherds, house wives. Through parables, Jesus helps the people to perceive the mysterious presence of the Kingdom in the things of every day life. A parable is a comparison.
