Live the Present Moment

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD FEBRUARY 19, 2021  Friday after Ash Wednesday WORD of the DAY The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”  (Matthew 9: 14 – 15) How shall I live this Word?   The Pharisees are very good and honest people, attached to the Word, to what God said, to the Law established and codified in the past … so for them life is in observance. They don’t live in the present; life is the past. John’s disciples, on the other hand, are the other form of religiosity, entirely directed towards the future. The disciples of Jesus eat.  For them God is not what He was, He is not what He will be, He is the one who is here, now, because He has already come.
