FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 27th Saturday of Ordinary Time October 10, 2020 WORD of the DAY While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.” (Luke 11: 27-28) How shall I live this Word? We live in an epoch in which the Word is always and totally available to us. We can read it whenever we want to, hear explanations and reflections continually; listen to it with faith during Eucharistic Celebrations. Then why is it that we are not blest, why are we not happy? We read the Word, we reflect on it, we mediate on it, but we do not allow it to change us, to put us in crisis, to convert us. Why? Because it is uncomfortable to do what it tells us. It is difficult to love without self-interest. It is hard to give the first place to God and others. It is fatiguing to live unconditional love and self-giving. So you see, the Word does not change us...
