SECOND WEDNESDAY OF ADVENT

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD SECOND WEDNESDAY OF ADVENT December 11, 2019 WORD of the DAY   “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,  and I will give you rest.   Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”      (Matthew 11:  28-30)   How shall I live this Word? But how much do certain yokes weigh? How heavy is the yoke of all those people killed by those who said they loved them and then struck twice, in body and heart?  How heavy is the yoke of all the dead refugees in the Mediterranean; of that mother drowned with her passport and those of her two daughters, well-guarded in her jacket; of that 14-year-old teenager who died at sea with her report card sewn into her pocket?  How heavy is the yoke of those who live in war-torn countries and lives, amid continuous violence, fears, bombs, death, and perhaps do not know what peace is?  How heavy is the yoke of those children who escaped from the war and...
