FIRST MONDAY of ADVENT

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD December 4, 2017 FIRST MONDAY of ADVENT       WORD of the DAY  The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.   For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (Matthew 8: 5-11)   How shall I live this Word? Today’s Gospel narrates the event of the Centurion who begs Jesus to cure his servant, but does not feel worthy to have Jesus enter his house.  For him, a word is enough for his servant to be healed. We admire the faith of this Centurion and the great goodness of Jesus who promptly responds to the soldier’s plea.  He is truly the Savior, which is the meaning of Jesus’ name.  Jesus had immediately responded that He would go and cure the servant, but the Centurion repeats that he is not worthy to receive Him into his home.  He knows the miracle will happen with...
