32nd Friday in Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Friday November 16, 2018 Thirty Second Week of Ordinary Time  WORD of the DAY   But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another.  For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you should walk. (2  Jn: 5-6)   How shall I live this Word? Certainly, the Gospel of John the Apostle is a very precious pearl, but so are the three Letters of the disciple who is capable of penetrating into the depths of the heart of Christ Jesus.  We do well to remember that John, along with Peter, Paul, and the other Apostles educated the first Christian generation to the mentality of Christ. Here he is writing to a lady with an emblematic name that refers to one of the Christian believers formed by the primitive Church.  It is beautiful to see John declare solemnly that he does not want to proclaim a new commandment.
