First Saturday of Lent

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD First Saturday of LENT March 7, 2020 WORD of the DAY “For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5: 46-48) How shall I live this Word? Love is the commandment of Christ’s disciple; to really love, without duplicity, without looking for compensations and profit. This is truly difficult. However, it is still not enough to be perfect as the Father is perfect. For Jesus, it is not enough to only love our neighbors and our friends. We also need to love our enemies, those with whom we find it so hard to dialogue, those we cannot stand, those we cannot forgive, those who have made us suffer and still do so. Those are the ones to whom we must give our greeting and toward whom we must take the first step. Those are the ones we need to bless and love. Jesus asks us to live a very demanding...
