Mary, Mother & Disciple

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 33rd Saturday of Ordinary Time PRESENTATION of the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY November 21, 2020 WORD of the DAY  For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.   (Matthew 12: 50) How shall I live this Word?   At the end of the Discourse on the mission (Mt 10), Jesus had affirmed that the missionary must be free from the bonds of blood, in order to be dedicated to the cause of the Gospel (10:37ff). In the next two chapters (11-12) Jesus encounters hostility and disputes. It is presumable that His people who seek Him want in a certain way to protect Him, to save Him from the danger of repressive actions. But Jesus, with the bond of discipleship, is generating a new, inclusive family. And the indissoluble bond with the one who generated is wonderfully redesigned. His mother, who from the beginning was consecrated to the service of the Word of God, passed on to Him the art of living and singing the Word.
