Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Sunday, January 27, 2019 Week 3 of Ordinary Time WORD of the DAY The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord. (Luke: 4: 18-19) How shall I live this Word? Jesus’ activity is untiring. He goes through the sunny roads of Palestine. He stops at the homes of friends or of those curious about His secret. He goes to the synagogues, places of worship and of proclamation. Now He is at Nazareth, in the synagogue of His town where He reveals the ultimate and great meaning of His mission. The Holy Spirit has anointed Him, that is, conferred on Him the mandate of “to bring glad tidings to the poor…to proclaim liberty to captives”, above all, “to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord”.
