Second Monday of Easter Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Monday of EASTER TIME April 20, 2020 WORD of the DAY Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus at night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one can do these signs that you are doing unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a person once grown old be born again? Surely he cannot reenter his mother’s womb and be born again, can he?” Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. John notes everything in his Gospel and it seems that the disciple whom “Jesus loved” was a curious spectator of that nocturnal incursion, the theme of the interview, once again, the love of the Father, who “loves the Son and has given everything over to Him”. It is also the unique bond between the Father and Jesus that gives eternal life to those who believe in Him. That night for Nicodemus was a bright night which revealed to him the depth of the Trinitarian love, the power and tenderness of a God who knows how to bring new birth from above. Today we...
