First Thursday of Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Thursday January 17, 2019 Week 1 of Ordinary Time  WORD of the DAY  We have become partners of Christ if only we hold the beginning of the reality firm until the end.    (Hebrews  3: 14)   How shall I live this Word?   This passage contains a warning that solicits us to not let fear seduce us, which impedes us from continuing to believe.  The long quote of Psalm 94 recalls the infidelity and fear of Israel that was punished.  After 40 years in the desert, many did not enter into ‘God’s rest’.  Moses himself would not enter the Promised Land! Today as well, threats to the faith come from the fear of losing something, but also from being too free and responsible.  Trust in God is adherence to His plan of salvation which sees us as actively prolonging  this mystery in history.  This adhesion is the effective way of living our participation in Christ. His participation means sharing His being as the Son,  His being as king, prophet, priest. Lord, keep us firm in our trust in You.  Let nothing distract us from You but allow us to take part in...
