SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Friday June 29, 2018      Week Twelve of Ordinary Time  Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul Apostles    WORD of the DAY  He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”   Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”  Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood  has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.   And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it”.     (Matthew 16: 15-18)    How shall I live this Word? This time it is not Jesus who is questioned but He is the one who questions.  He wants to know the thoughts of His followers.  He wants to know what they really think of Him and what they have understood about Him in their depths.  Peter’s response is immediate.  It does not come from the ‘flesh and blood’ of the apostle, but from the Father with whom Jesus is in continual contact.
