JESUS is the SIGN

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD FEBRUARY 24, 2021  First Wednesday of Lent WORD of the DAY  While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah.  Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. At the judgment  the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation  and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here.  At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”                    (Luke 11: 29 – 32) How shall I live this Word?   The wickedness for which Jesus reproaches His contemporaries is not material for the initiation of a judicial procedure, as we would do by claiming legitimate rights. It is the heartfelt cry of the One who has made Himself sincerely in solidarity with...

LIVE the WORD

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD THIRD SUNDAY of ADVENT December 13, 2020 WORD of the DAY  A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony,  to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.  He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.       (John 1: 6-8) How shall I live this Word?   The power of credibility, of transparency, of coherence between what one says and what one does made the Baptist attractive. Enlightened by his testimony, many joined him in the desert, allowed themselves to be provoked by his proclamation, felt the desire for renewal arise in their hearts. Only a luminous life is capable of authentically bearing witness to the light. In the text that we are meditating on it is also said that one can witness the light in a credible way only on condition that one knows one’s identity, one’s role. John knows that he is not the light but that he has received the task of preparing hearts to welcome it. When you are not aware of yourself and your role, unfortunately you expose yourself to the risk of being proponents of confusion and...

Tenth Saturday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 10th Saturday of Ordinary Time June 15, 2019 WORD of the DAY  Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, ‘Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.’   But I say to you, do not swear at all;  not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.  Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.   Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.       (Matthew 5: 33-37)   How shall I live this Word? The anxious search for the right words do not express so much love for the truth as the desire to awe others and bring them closer to our positions. Let us concern ourselves instead that our life be above all, an eloquent testimony of our values, aware that words, when they lose their adherence to things, lose their consistency and end up becoming dull clinking and pure ornamentation. No one will...
