Tenth Thursday in Ordinary Time

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Thursday June 14, 2018      Week Ten of Ordinary Time         WORD of the DAY  Elijah then said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink.  (1 Kings 18: 41)    How shall I live this Word? King Ahab would have Elijah dead; in fact, he thought he had already eliminated him. Finding him again is a form of defeat and betrayal by those to whom had entrusted the mission of suppressing every prophet of God in Israel. It is also the sign of how the challenge between Baal and the God of Elijah is open.  Abdia introduces Elijah to Ahab and he accepts the meeting. The words of Elijah are few and without implications: the drought is ending, Israel is safe, you, Ahab can return to life as usual. The authority of Elijah stops Ahab who obeys. It’s raining and the water brings life back. Lord, faith in you helps us transform our reality.
