FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF JESUS February 2, 2020 WORD of the DAY Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. (Luke 2: 25-26) How shall I live this Word? Luke the evangelist presents us with the figure of a man whose justice still has something to say to us. This is Simeon who is willingly in the Temple of God waiting for what the great prophets of the Old Testament had come to announce what God had shown them in vision or dream. A plan of salvation for all humanity had come to open horizons of hope in the hearts of those people who had become ever more attentive to the Word of God, ready – with His consent – to reveal it for the good of all men and women.
