Second Saturday of Lent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Second Saturday of Lent, March 3, 2018 WORD of the DAY  He said to him, ‘My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is yours.  But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.      (Luke 15: 32) How shall I live this Word? The ending of one of the most beautiful and disconcerting parables of the Gospel brings us back to the fatigue of really being good! It is not the assumption of correct and impeccable behavior that assures us that we have a converted heart. The elder brother of the parable was faithful, obedient to his father, an indefatigable worker, capable of renouncing his pastimes in the name of duty, but he was arid, jealous, a petty computer of those who have more or less. He does not recognize the abyss filled by his brother, who from degeneration had the strength to turn back, to make himself welcomed, and experience his father’s forgiveness.
