Feast of St. Blaise (San Biagio)

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Saturday, February 3, 2018 Feast of St. Blaise Bishop and Martyr   WORD of the DAY   He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat.   So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. (Mark 6: 31-32) How shall I live this Word? Mark reveals a very human and tender trait of Jesus in regard to His apostles.  He worries about them.  He had sent them to proclaim the Gospel, but He did not want them to get over-tired and overcome with work, so much so that they ‘no opportunity even to eat’.  Jesus was convinced that it was important for His apostles to ‘remain with Him’ to rest a while and share among themselves their experiences of the mission.  It was important to ‘go off by themselves to a deserted place’ far from the crowds, in intimacy with Jesus. We cannot fully understand the meaning of the mission when we remain suffocated by things to do and by the crowd.  We must listen to...
