TENTH TUESDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD TENTH TUESDAY OF ORDINARY TIME June 9, 2020 WORD of the DAY You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. (Matthew 5: 13) How shall I live this Word? Salt is the flavor of the beatitudes, that style of life that conserves the identity of every friend of Jesus. The beatitudes are the flavor of our identity as children of the Father. Salt is also the symbol of conservation and the beatitudes preserve us from corruption, give us wisdom, and help us to feel we are sisters and brothers. Filial and fraternal life is for everyone the flavor of life. Losing this awareness, this flavor of Christ, this giving our life with love and humility, makes us insipid, without ‘meaning’ for ourselves and the others. The struggle within us between the wisdom of love and egoism, between beatitude and selfishness, between entrustment and self-referencing is the struggle for ‘identity’, the struggle for true life.
