Third Saturday of Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Saturday, January 27, 2018 Week Three of Ordinary Time   WORD of the DAY   David grew very angry with that man and said to Nathan: “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves death!  He shall make fourfold restitution for the lamb because he has done this and was unsparing.” Then Nathan said to David: “You are the man!”  (2 Samuel 12: 5-7) How shall I live this Word? It is hard for us to recognize our own sin!  But we easily see it in the others.  We only know it from hearing it from others but if the words that come to us are scarce or adulatory, in some way falsified, we cannot have a true idea of ourselves.  We could travel between too much or too little esteem of ourselves, perhaps acting without reflecting on the significance, the scope of our actions. Accepting comparisons and criticism is difficult, inconvenient, but vital.  It is the strength of acting together, where everyone has to put all of oneself but allows self to be reflected in others.
