First Friday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Friday, January 18, 2019 Week 1 of Ordinary Time WORD of the DAY For we who believed enter into [that] rest, just as he has said. (Hebrews 4: 3) How shall I live this Word? What is this rest of God? What does it mean to enter into it? The author of the Letter to the Hebrews uses this expression drawing from Psalm 94, where rest is synonymous with the promised land and is connected to creation in general, when after its completion, God rested on the seventh day. It is the state of bliss that comes from loving the beautiful of all that is made in His image. We could say that for us, it is also participation, fruition of the beauty of the Kingdom, a share in His power and in His blessings. Rest is also harmony, reconciliation, restored equilibrium, awareness, and serenity of beauty, one’s own and that of others. It is a state of quietude that does not connote laziness and inactivity.
