THIRD THURSDAY OF ADVENT

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD THIRD THURSDAY OF ADVENT CHRISTMAS NOVENA December 19, 2019 WORD of the DAY The angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right of the altar of incense. Zechariah was troubled by what he saw, and fear came upon him. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John.” (Luke 1: 11-13) How shall I live this Word? By now Zachariah has lost all hope of a child. He and Elizabeth his bride, are too old to give birth to a descendant. But they continue to praise God with their everyday life. During the priestly service to which he was called, Zachariah welcomes the much desired but now unexpected announcement. An angel of God comes, who in front of his trembling, reassures him: “Do not be afraid.” The boundless fear of this encounter is counterbalanced by unlimited reassurance: the greatness of God is not against us, but for us.
