Fourth Wednesday of Easter

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Fourth Wednesday of Easter, April 25, 2018 WORD of the DAY   Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them, Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16: 15)   How shall I live this Word? In communion with the Coptic and Byzantine Church, today we celebrate the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist, a faithful disciple of Peter, whose gathers the sayings and facts of Jesus. In particular, the evangelist refers to the episode of  the Ascension of the Lord, preceded by the missionary mandate addressed to the Eleven: “Go, … preach the Gospel!”, followed by the list of signs that will accompany their mission: drive out demons, speak new languages, heal the sick, be invulnerable to poisons, ‘tame’ snakes, by the power of the crucified and risen Lord. An emblematic list of unsolvable situations, that could be extended each era, even ours. The message is clear: the effective presence of the Lord works in those who believe and go in His name. So too in us who, in the wake of the Eleven, we form the ‘new humanity’ that walks following Jesus. It is...
