Turn to the Lord

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD SECOND SATURDAY of ADVENT December 12, 2020 WORD of the DAY  Then the disciples asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” He said in reply,  “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things;  but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.”  Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.      (Matthew 17: 10-13) How shall I live this Word?   Elijah and John the Baptist are two prophets united in the mission of preparing the people for an encounter with the Lord, “I am full of zeal for the Lord” (1 Kings 19:10). John completes Elijah’s mission because he is the one who guides humanity to the encounter with the Messiah, with Jesus. Both were men who fought against all kinds of idolatry and for this they endured misunderstanding and death.
