23rd Wednesday of Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 33rd Wednesday of Ordinary Time November 20, 2019 WORD of the DAY  While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.  He said: “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return.   So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.  ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’”    (Luke 19: 11-13)   How shall I live this Word? Jesus tells us that the master goes away telling the servants that what he had left must be made fruitful, made to live. He suggests to make it fruitful, to bear fruit, to give life. The time we live cannot be an empty waiting; we are asked to make use of what is given to us. To arrive at the fruit, it takes times of effort, of care, of attention. Life is a gift to be regenerated continuously, it is a mystery of creative fidelity to the gift received. The master has educated the servants...
