Third Thursday of Lent

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Third Thursday of Lent, March 8, 2018 WORD of the DAY   When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe.  But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils.  Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.  (Luke 11: 21-23) How shall I live this Word? The similarity used by Jesus in today’s Gospel is of great help to us in the journey of conversion and interior discernment that we are making with the whole Church in this time of Lent. The “strong, well-armed” man who guards the door of his house represents the demon, certain to have defeated the man and to have conquered him definitively. “But if someone stronger than him arrives and wins him, he snatches away the weapons in which he confided and divides his booty.” This is stronger one is Jesus himself, who overcomes the devil and tears off his armor.
