FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD 26th Thursday of Ordinary Time October 3, 2019 WORD of the DAY After this the Lord appointed seventy[-two] others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. (Luke 10: 1-4) How shall I live this Word? The text of the evangelist Luke informs us how Jesus organized Himself by involving a large number of disciples (72) and sending them two by two ahead of Him, thus involving them in a holy collaboration. He also gave them the reason for His pressing invitation: the Harvest, that is the population, was not a small group to be converted to the Kingdom but a large number of people.
