Tenth Wednesday of Ordinary Time

 FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Wednesday June 13, 2018      Week Ten of Ordinary Time         WORD of the DAY  He answered, “It is not I who disturb Israel, but you and your father’s house, by forsaking the commands of the Lord and you by following the Baals. (1 Kings 18: 20)   How shall I live this Word? Elijah has the word of God inscribed in his heart, in his mind, in his bones, in his flesh. His faith allows him to disdain every form of religion that by purely human means tries to invent an idol. Today’s reading tells us about the challenge with the 450 priests of Baal: both sides have a similar sacrifice, a young bull ready to be a holocaust, but not by human hands. The priests of Baal jump and scream all day, expressing what they think could arouse the intervention of a God imagined by them who is sensitive to all this. Elijah waits, amused by so much excitement. In the evening, without magical formulas and surprising rites, he invokes the presence of God, recalling with the people the history of revelation and salvation already experienced through Abraham and Jacob.
