33rd Tuesday of Ordinary Time

  FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD Tuesday November 20, 2018 Thirty Third Week of Ordinary Time  WORD of the DAY   When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house.    (Luke 19: 5)   How shall I live this Word? The figure of Zacchaeus is typical! A tax collector, easily more ‘glued’ to the money (to be delivered to the powerful Romans) than to his living there, an official rather unpopular among the people. Jesus did not miss this character who, small in stature, was intrigued about His passage. He had even found the expedient to remedy his shortness by climbing a tree. He seems to see Him: stretched outwards, to get a good look at this unusual traveler Christ the Lord, surrounded and pushed by a crowd in need of help in many areas. What in this scene gives off most power is the word of Jesus “come down quickly”: an explicit command that moreover requires timeliness and prompt reception: “today I must stay at your house”.
