FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
December 22, 2018
Third Saturday of Advent
WORD of the DAY
And Mary said:
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed”. (Luke 1: 46-48)
How shall I live this Word?
The encounter between these two expectant mothers rings out in song. Those who love, sing, and love remains only when it is loved. The Spirit leads Mary to a marvelous historical and cosmic synthesis. “From now on all ages will call me blessed”. Moving and powerful is this exclamation from the mouth of a little, humble daughter of Israel. Her song is the compendium of the whole history of salvation and takes on the same melody of the Beatitudes. Elizabeth gave the impetus for this song that traverses the centuries with her words, “Blessed are you who believed”. The Magnificat flowed out that today still erupts in the whole Christian world. It has been said that “the end of history will be an endless song of joy”.
Today, my song and prayer will be the Magnificat.
The Voice of P. Teilhard de Chardin
My one ideal is to be the servant to whom the Lord gives the place He wishes in his heart and desires only this: to be faithful.
