FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
Third Thursday of Easter Time
May 9, 2019
WORD of the DAY
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” (John 6: 47-51)
How shall I live this Word?
Those who eat of it has eternal life; they live as God’s children and will rise on the last day. He does not say that we will not have to submit to physical death, but that this will be followed by resurrection…living forever! Eternal life, which is already possessed by those who eat of Him, is the communion of love with Him. Far from interrupting this, death fully accomplishes it.
Risen Lord, we need Your living Bread!
The Voice of Benedict XVI Pope Emeritus
We need this Bread to face the fatigue and difficulty of the journey. Eating the Eucharistic Bread , and experiencing communion among brothers and sisters in Christ, is a need for all Christians. It is a joy so that Christians may find the necessary energy for the journey they must take…It is not an arbitrary journey. The road that God indicates in His Word, goes in the direction written in the very essence of human beings. The Word of God and reason go together. Following the Word of God, going with Christ, means the self-realization of the human person. Losing it means losing oneself.
