Third Thursday of Ordinary Time

FRIENDS and SERVANTS of the WORD
Third Thursday of Ordinary Time
30 January 2020

WORD of the DAY

He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” (Mark 4: 24-25)

How shall I live this Word?

The great commandment repeated several times in the Bible “Shema Israel” summed up the invitation of the Lord to His people and set the tone for the daily life of the true Israelite. For us too there is the same invitation from the Master in the Gospel today, which requires every believer to have intelligent and faithful attention to His Word. Hence the deepening of our faith and the possibility of entering into a closer communion with Jesus, with His heart. He revealed and reveals to us the new face of God which we can recognize and rejoice. Yesterday, as today, the teaching of Jesus is different from the teachings that can come to us from advertising, from consumption, from the race for power, from banality. The Master narrates with His life the existence and essence of a Creator who made Himself one of us and who was rich as God and made Himself poor. With a humble attitude we approach His Word, sure to be satisfied in our deepest desires and to receive even more as a consequence of our good gaze on others.

Today, I will pray together with St. Ignatius of Loyola, “Grant that I may know You intimately, O Christ, and as the companion of Your Cross, I may rise with You.”

The voice of Silvano Fausti, Biblical Scholar
God’s gift exceeds every measure. We are urged to make it grow in order to receive more and more. There is a dynamics in our relationship with Him that will never cease and leads us to participate in His infinity. The more we desire, the more we obtain, but we always obtain more than what we desire. In fact, love is endless. No satisfaction can extinguish it. That which satisfies it also increases it.
