WORD of the DAY

So they said to him, “What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” So Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” (John 6 30: 35)

How shall I live this Word?
Then they said to him: “Lord, always give us this bread.” Jesus asked for faith in Him, a total adherence to His person, but people do not understand. It takes much more to believe in Him, the miracle of bread is not enough. So, like the Pharisees asking for a more amazing sign and mentioning what happened in the desert, when God gave them a bread with the manna come down from heaven. Jesus changes the subject and says: “It is not Moses who gave it to you” and then passing from the past to the present adds: “but my Father now gives you a bread from heaven, the real one”. And, defining Himself, He says that the true bread is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world, that is “it is the source of life for all, not just for one people”. At this point like the Samaritan woman when she heard about a water that quenches thirst forever, the Pharisees also respond in a similar way: “Lord, always give us this bread.” The Samaritan woman said this to remove the hassle of tapping into the well every day. They responded for a similar reason, not because they wanted to believe”.
Risen Lord, always give us this bread!
The Voice of St. Augustine

Who, if not Christ, is the bread of heaven? But for a person to eat the bread of angels, the Lord of angels became human. If this had not been done, we would not have His body; not having His own body, we would not be eating the altar bread.
